Reception had so much fun at Forest School this week. We made dens, seesaws and tested them to see if they worked and just enjoyed being outdoors in the sunshine! What a lovely way to end our week!

Class 6 CT thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon with 'That History Bloke' learning about World War I! They learnt about the story of local hero Thomas Young, a young soldier from Durham, who received the Victoria Cross for his bravery.

Reception held their own investigation to find out and as you can see, we took this rather seriously! We investigated whether we could 'huff and puff' like The Big Bad Wolf to make objects move. We chose different materials and objects and made predictions whether we could blow them away or not. Reception then discussed their properties and thought about why some may be easier to move than others. As you can see, we were very competitive!

It was another brilliant Forest School session this week in Reception! The children dug with their new trowels and made some delicious looking plates of food for the birds. Some children even found some worms as the toppings! We are certain the birds will thoroughly enjoy them.

As part of their 'Mission' from our Celebration of the Word this week, Reception could choose a name from our box and 'peg a prayer' to them. The children were respectful and thought of a prayer to say for their friend. We left it out over the week for the children to choose different friends, knowing that on different days, some people need our prayers for different reasons.

Nursery thought about the best way to rescue the whale as part of our new topic about polar regions.

Reception had their first Forest School session and what fun we had! Sticks became fishing rods and wands, casting spells for treats and other lovely things! All of the children shared ideas as to what they would like to see in our Forest School and we can't wait to get started!

Our Reception children were so excited to return to school to see so much snow. Of course we had to play in it! We found imprints in the snow and we all discussed what we thought made them and why. What do you think made them?

To bring the Jubilee Year – Pilgrims of Hope  – to a meaningful close, our whole school gathered together for a special Celebration of the Word. It was a beautiful moment of unity, reflection, and gratitude, as we looked back on the journey we have shared throughout the year. Each class created their own Angels of Hope , carefully crafted with messages, prayers and symbols that represented faith, kindness and the hope we carry into the future. Thank you so much to our wonderful families and friends who joined us last night for our annual Christmas Drop‑In. The hall was filled with festive cheer, community spirit and plenty of smiles as we came together to celebrate this special time of year. Year 1 and 2 performed their Christmas play. We were blown away by the singing, acting and dancing. They were amazing!

Year 5 have been getting into the Christmas spirit by making their very own festive robin decorations — and they were amazing! The children showed fantastic sewing skills, working carefully and creatively to bring their little robins to life. From threading needles to stitching details, their focus and teamwork were wonderful to see. We’re so proud of their hard work — and the robins look absolutely adorable!

The school choir delights our parishioners by performing for them at their Christmas lunch. Our Year 5 choir sang beautifully at the parishes Christmas lunch, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Everyone enjoyed the traditional carols and Christmas songs. What a lovely way to share the joy of the festive season!

6RH have been putting their creativity and faith into action by producing beautiful Nativity themed artwork to share with their local parish community. As part of their Faith in Action award, the children were challenged to think deeply about the meaning of Christmas and alongside their illustrations, they carefully selected scripture pieces to share encouragement and joy. Class 6CT enjoyed their afternoon using their knowledge of circuits to make a set of traffic lights!

Our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils beautifully opened this year’s Advent festivities with a wonderful Advent Carol Service at St Edward’s. Their singing and readings filled the church with joy and hope, reminding us all of the true meaning of this season—waiting patiently and faithfully for the arrival of Jesus. A heartfelt well done to our pupils for helping us begin this special journey in such a meaningful way.

Year 5 had a fantastic time taking part in the UK Parliament Week festival! After examining our own bill—“Should the school day be extended to 4pm?”—we debated like real MPs and cast our votes. The results are in… we decided the school day should not be extended!
