Mini Vinnies

The Society of St Vincent de Paul has been engaging with young people and education since its earliest days. Today the SVP England & Wales is pleased to highlight its continuing strong links with young people, through the development of its new 'Mini Vinnies' programme - a ground-breaking Primary Schools initiative which is seen as having, "the potential to significantly contribute to the future of our Society.

'Mini Vinnies' are children aged between 7 to 11 (or younger) who, with the permission of their parents and the support of their Schools, are encouraged to embark on their first steps as possible 'Vincentians for life'.

As Mini Vinnies, the children have their own 'treasured' Prayer, Pledge and Badge, a dedicated website and a range of bright and colourful documents which guide them in their formative steps - helping and enabling them to become in every sense, young Vincentians - or 'Mini Vinnies'.

Our Mini Vinnies group is very active at Star of the Sea.  They get together to organise and talk about helping others in need within our school and community.

The Mini Vinnies meet every fortnight with our Mini Vinnies coordinator, Mr Thompson, to discuss our mission- See, Think, Do, and to share ideas and concerns.

CAFOD Club

Our CAFOD Club meets every Thursday with Miss Austin and provides pupils with the opportunity to put their faith into action. Through discussion, teamwork and creativity, members explore important themes such as fairness, justice and supporting communities in need around the world.

Together, we brainstorm ideas, plan fundraising events and raise awareness of global issues, helping to make a positive difference both locally and globally. The club encourages pupils to think about how they can make the world a fairer place and how their actions can help others. Our pupils are passionate, thoughtful and determined to live out our school values through service, compassion and social responsibility, demonstrating that even small actions can make a big difference. 🌍💚

Rosary Club

Our Rosary Club meets every Wednesday with Mrs Hodgkins, offering pupils a peaceful opportunity to come together in prayer and reflection. Through praying the Rosary, children deepen their relationship with God and grow in their understanding of the life of Jesus and the example of Mary.

The club provides a welcoming space where pupils can share their faith, develop their spirituality and support one another through prayer. Rosary Club encourages children to live out our Catholic values, fostering a sense of community, compassion and trust in God. We are proud of the reverence and commitment shown by our pupils as they gather each week to pray together. 🙏💙✨

Laudato Si' Leaders

Our Laudato Si’ Leaders meet with Mrs McQuillan and are inspired by Pope Francis’ letter, Laudato Si’, which calls on us to care for our common home. The group encourages pupils to become stewards of God's creation by taking practical action to protect and improve our environment.

Throughout the year, pupils help to care for our school vegetable patch, plant trees and promote eco-friendly initiatives across the school community. They work together to raise awareness of environmental issues and inspire others to make positive choices that benefit our planet.

Through their commitment and enthusiasm, our Laudato Si’ Leaders demonstrate respect for creation, responsibility and care for the world around us, helping to make our school a greener and more sustainable place. 🌱🌍💚
