Year 5 Explore Geordie Culture and Learn the Story of the Lambton Worm.

5RH have enjoyed a Geordie themed workshop today with the company ENACT from Newcastle University. The company aim to support language learning through cultural enriching activities.

One of our pupils chose to learn about Geordie language and we learned the story of the Lambton Worm, a traditional folk tale originating in Durham. It tells the story of young John Lambton goes fishing and catches a strange worm- like creature. Discarding it into a well, he later forgets about it and goes off to war. Years later, the worm, having grown into a monstrous size, emerges from the well and terrorises the local village.
