On Thursday, my class and the other Year 5 class, were on our way to the beach! Each class was split into groups and we began our trip by going on the Metro. We made our way from Monkseaton station to Cullercoats where we walked down to the beach. (Tommy)
We arrived at Cullercoats Bay. The waves were tiny, the sky was blue and clouds flew across it. Luckily, we managed to find some shade to sit in; the sand there was much cooler than the rest of the beach.
There was a lot of glass on the sand so we had to be careful where we played. (Viktor)
On the beach, we explored the dark caves and found lots of birds! We completed our workbooks where we had to carry out different research activities. For one of them, we had to count the waves for a minute (three times) and then find the average. We found an average of 10 waves per minute. After our field work activities, we played a big game of football and buried each other in the sand! (Archie)
All of the trip was amazing but I really enjoyed asking people on the beach questions. It was really interesting. There were lots of different answers as to why they were visiting the area and how far they had travelled. There was even a family from Chicago so they had travelled well over 250 miles!
I also enjoyed picking up pebbles and stones because there were so many different ones all over the beach. We picked some from three different points on the beach and they were all very unique and intriguing. We confirmed that the pebbles closer to the shoreline were smoother and smaller because they had been eroded by the waves and water. (Roísín)
We had a great day out!
