A fun day out was had by all when Year 6 went on their school trip to Cragside. We set off in style in a double decker bus but things took a turn when the bus broke down just seven minutes away from the National Trust property! The children took it all in their stride and enjoyed snacks and a walk while we waited for our replacement bus! Once we were there, we went on a walk of discovery to view the Archimedes’ Screw that Lord Armstrong engineered and also the Pump House. We also had an amazing visit to the house! Here is what some of the children thought of their trip…
My favourite part was the ‘electricity room’ because there were holograms giving us information on the different equipment and experiments and there were amazing demonstrations.
I was amazed by the architecture and paintings on the walls. It really reminded me of the Louvre Museum. I also enjoyed seeing the absolutely massive pool table!
I thought the laboratories were really good because you could see some of the ideas that Lord Armstrong came up with.
One of the rooms in the house is called ‘The Owl Suite’, where Princess Alexandra stayed. She was so impressed at the time because the room had a sink with a tap that ran hot and cold water which at the time, was a completely new idea. Even the Royal Palace didn’t have it so the visitors were extremely impressed!
I loved walking around this beautiful place and was so interested to think that people back in Lord Armstrong’s time would have been amazed to have hot water coming from a tap! Before this, I didn’t know what an Archimedes’ Screw was and it’s so fascinating. It was a great experience.
Overall, Cragside was an amazing trip! |
