Year 4 had a great day learning about how the Romans lived in our local area.

Our Year 4 summer trip this year was to Arbeia Roman Fort in South Shields.
The children had a fantastic time learning all about the Roman soldiers who lived at the fort and their Commanding Officer, investigating their living quarters. They even tried out the sofas in the dining room that belonged to the Commanding Officer for entertaining his guests! It was popular for Romans to lie down when they were dining so the children had great fun imagining what this would have been like.
The Time Quest activity was a fantastic way to get involved and to be mini archaeologists. There were some amazing artefacts that were found such as cow and deer bones, antlers, pottery and even a skull!! There was a great deal of fun in the activity zone where the children could dress as Romans and play Roman games and puzzles.
Arbeia museum was fascinating and was a great chance to see the artefacts we have learnt about in school such as the tombstones of Viktor and Regina and the altars that we have seen in photos.
We had a fab day out and the sun shone brightly for us!
