Year 5 had an amazing morning taking part in 2 workshops delivered by Newcastle University Outreach students. Taking advantage of our parent/ governor links to local universities, we enjoyed taking part in some mind blowing experiments. Some experiments focused on our senses and others looked more closely and solids. liquids and gases. We learnt about 'sublimation', the process of change from a solid straight into a gas, using dry ice. We explored the flame colour of potassium, copper and sodium and how the colour was determined by the amount of electrons in each element. We were all suitably scientifically inspired!
