Our Reception weekly newsletter…

Reception

March 15, 2024

After two lovely weeks, our chicks have now left Reception and are now on their way back to the farm! The children took great care of them and learned so much about their life cycle. They were a very welcome addition to our class and we miss them already.

In maths, we explored the concept of ’odd blocks and even tops’ through our friends the ’Numberblocks’. We looked at each number to ten, deciding if it had an ‘odd block’ or ‘even top’. This introduced odd and even numbers to the children in a visual way. We then asked, if we double a number will it make an ‘even’ number.

The children then set about to see if this was true.

To celebrate ‘British Science Week’, we investigated what happens to biscuits when they get wet in order to find the perfect biscuit for Mrs Dimambro’s cup of tea. ‘Nice’ biscuits were the worst for dunking as it fell apart very quickly whereas ‘Oaty’ biscuits were the best as they stayed together for longer. It was a super investigation!

Next week…

We will continue our Talk for Writing story. ‘Farmer Duck’ moving on to the ‘innovation’ stage of writing, changing parts of the story to create a new version. We will explore different strategies when counting and counting on from a given number.

Home learning

Why not have a go making the chicks a card to say ’Thank you’ for visiting our school!

Reminder - Our ‘Easter Learning Together’ session will be held on Wednesday 27th March at 2pm in the Hall.

Have a lovely weekend everyone! Let’s hope the sun weather continues to improve!
