physical education (p.e.)

Star of the Sea school aims to inspire all children to develop a love of physical activity and sport. Through good physical education, whole school values and whole child approach, we aim to nurture confident, resilient children who will always strive for their personal best.

We strive to educate our children to develop a greater understanding on how to live healthy lifestyles and make healthy choices. We are dedicated to ensuring healthy minds, as well as bodies will continue to support our children’s well-being.

The curriculum has been carefully planned so that each child develops key skills as they progress throughout the school. This is to ensure that by the end of each key stage, children achieve the National Curriculum expectations as outlined below.

We aim to ensure that our delivery of physical education allows all children to have the skills and mindset to leave Star of the Sea with the capabilities to be successful in their sporting challenges at secondary school and beyond.

Extra Curricular Activities and Opportunities

At Star of the Sea we aim to offer a wide range of active experiences and clubs for our children.

We offer a number of before and after school sports clubs each week, for children in KS1 and KS2. We listen to our children’s wants and needs and our clubs have included; boxercise, judo, dance, ball sports, multi-skills, athletics, cricket, dodgeball, archery, rock-it ball and many more!

We have a range of free sports clubs available to children during lunchtimes too. These include football clubs and a very popular multi-skills club with Access Coaching. Our Year 6 children also help run a Play-Leaders club, where they work with Access Coaching to carry out sporting games and activities for younger children across the school during playtimes.

All children take part in the Daily Mile, which is a fun opportunity for children to keep fit and healthy. Click the following link to find out more https://thedailymile.co.uk/.

Competitions and Festivals

We want to aid our children in obtaining the values and skills to celebrate and respect the success of others, as well as celebrating their own successes. As a result of this, we encourage our children to take part in a wide range of competitions and festivals during their time at Star of the Sea.

From the ‘Northumberland Cross Country Event’ to dodgeball and skipping festivals, there are multiple opportunities for children to take part and compete in a sport that they enjoy.

We hold our own competitions in school across the year, including the Lenten Olympics and Sports Day, where we compete with those in different houses. These are always extremely popular and lots of fun is had by all.
