design technology

At Star of the Sea, Design and Technology is an engaging, practical subject where children work with a variety of materials to help children learn important life skills.

Through creative and practical activities we teach the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to research, design, make and evaluate.

Through class projects, children will draw upon disciplines such as maths, science, art and computing.

All children are actively encouraged to critique and test their ideas and the work of others.Cooking and nutrition provides opportunities to learn about diet, nutrition, food safety and hygiene, food preparation and cooking as well as where food comes from.

Children will learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens.

Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. High-quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation.
