Star of the Sea RC Primary School

A place where we Love, Pray, Learn and Grow

What we are doing

In Maths this week, we have recapping on 3D shapes, identifying them and describing their properties. We had a great practical session where we used marshmallows and cocktail sticks to make a variety of 3D shapes and to help us describe the edges, vertices (corners) and faces of our shapes.

In Science we are learning about plants. Can we grow our own giant peach plant? We have also created an experiment to see what happens when sunflower seeds are planted and looked after differently. Some have both sunlight and water, others have sunlight and and water, some have water and no sunlight and finally we have seeds that have neither sunlight or water.

Science 'Materials'.

We have been looking at materials and their properties, discussing what makes them suitable for the purpose in a real life context.

We welcomed visitors from Siemens who ran a workshop which investigated the buoyancy, the strength, the magnetism and suitability of a range of materials.

Take a look :)

Learning to play the recorder!

We enjoyed learning to play the recorder with Mr. Rush. We learnt about the beat and the pulse in music. What fun, what noise! frown

WORLD BOOK DAY!

Today, 8th march, we celebrated World book Day by coming to school dressed as our favourite characters and we shared some of our favourite stories. Look at our fantastic costumes...

We are authors in training and we have written and illustrated our own comics. We are so proud of our hard work. We learned all about onomatopoeia and the features we found in our comics.
