We have a buddy system here at Star of the Sea. Each year 6 student is allotted a pupil at the beginning of the new school year in reception class to be his or her buddy. They come together at play on a Friday afternoon, have selected reading days where the Year 6 students read stories or play activities with their buddy's and at Easter and Christmas time usually swap little presents to one another.
Our new headmaster Mr Hannah recently introduced a house point system within the school, each student has been given a house these comprise of Bede Cuthbert Aidan and Oswald each pupil can gain a house point for acheivement, behaviour or a good deed. These points are counted on a Friday and announced during assembly. This has proved a very encouraging and competitive exercise for all students.
We also have a pupil of the week for each class. During our Friday assembly the given students for that week are awarded with a certificate of acheivement and a small chocolate treat.
On the last Thursay of each month we hold a class mass for each year group, it is usually themed and students are encouraged to activily take part. Father David from St Edwards Church in Whitley Bay is our in-school priest and governing body, he has very strong bond with our school and is loved by all.
